17:00 – WE COME TO YOU
Your Storyteller meets you at your hotel, the railway station or an agreed Amritsar pickup point. We begin with a short introduction to the evening, what to expect and how to move respectfully through the sacred spaces ahead.

OLD AMRITSAR & HERITAGE PLAZA
Walk through the lanes leading towards the Golden Temple. Your Storyteller introduces the history of the walled city, its founding around the sacred pool and the way its character has changed, setting the context before you reach the shrine.

 JALLIANWALA BAGH – REMEMBRANCE
A short, quiet stop at the memorial garden where, on 13 April 1919, a peaceful gathering was fired upon. If operationally and seasonally suitable we include the visit; otherwise the history is woven into the heritage walk.

SRI HARMANDIR SAHIB BY NIGHT
Enter respectfully, cover your head, remove your footwear and take time around the Sarovar. See the illuminated shrine reflected in the water, walk the marble parikrama and take in the evening rhythm of the sacred space.

EVENING | REHRAS SAHIB & GURBANI
The daily routine includes Rehras Sahib around sunset. Listen to the evening Gurbani and kirtan as the complex fills with prayer. The exact ceremony timing follows the religious calendar and is confirmed for your travel date.

LANGAR & SEVA
Guests may participate in, or respectfully observe, the communal kitchen. Sit with everyone on the floor, share the meal and learn about seva, equality and community, which sit at the heart of the Sikh way of life.

LATE EVENING | OPTIONAL PALKI SAHIB / SUKHASAN
Where your schedule and the religious timetable permit, extend the evening to witness the night Palki Sahib / Sukhasan sequence. Exact timings vary during the year and are checked for your travel date.

RETURN
Return to your hotel or agreed drop-off point.

6 Reasons to Experience Amritsar with The Roots:

  • Faith With Context: Sri Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) is experienced as a living institution, not simply a monument, with insight into Sikh principles of equality, seva and community.

  • History Through People: Jallianwala Bagh and the Partition Museum are approached through remembrance and personal stories rather than spectacle, giving deeper meaning to the history.

  • Taste the Punjab: A relaxed Punjabi lunch becomes part of the cultural narrative of the day, not just a meal break.

  • Beyond the Monuments: Move past the principal landmarks into the streets, markets and living heritage of Old Amritsar.

  • Your Own Storyteller: A local Roots Storyteller adapts the conversation and pace of the day around you.

  • Small & Personal: A preferred group size of 2–6 guests leaves room for questions, reflection and flexibility throughout the day.

  • Remove your footwear before entering the temple premises.

  • Ask before photographing people, volunteers or religious activities.

  • Keep your belongings secure, especially in crowded areas.

  • Walk carefully around the Sarovar, as marble surfaces can become wet and slippery.

  • Feel free to participate in langar and seva, or simply observe respectfully.

  • Keep an open mind and remember that the Golden Temple is a living place of worship, not just a tourist attraction.
